  • Central Workshop is renamed as Central Skill Training & Fabrication facility.

  • CNC Laser cutting and engraving in acrylic and wood material. The maximum size of acrylic cutting is 900mmx900m and the maximum thickness to cut is 10mm.

  • Mechanical maintenance of machines/equipment.

    The students/staff/faculty can submit online work request through to avail Acrylic/soft wood Laser Cutting and Engraving ​facility. For further information you can contact the undersigned. Nominal usage charges are applicable for the above services.

Central Skill Training & Fabrication facility has supported the students 'Team Avishkar Hyperloop', IIT Madras achievement of the following at the European Hyperloop Week (EHW) Competition :

  • Adjudged Winner of 'Most Scalable Design Award' presented by Zeleros Hyperloop
  • Placed 5th in Complete Pod Award category
  • Placed among Top 5 globally in Mechanical, Propulsion and Levitation Award categories

Welcome to Workshop  IIT - Madras

Workshop is an educational platform where science is translated into technology. Central work shop is centralized facility of the Institute and it is one among those that serve, support and enhances the academic process of B.Tech and M.Tech Students, M.S and PhD Research Scholars.

IIT Madras is functioning as an autonomous institution to produce high quality students and also as a research Institution with a primary aim of providing a high standard research. The Central Skill Training & Fabrication facility facilities are used to impart practical skills to the students in major fields of engineering and technology, it also helps to fabricate experimental set up with the required quality and quantity within stipulated time to support research projects of the Institute.

CSTF is equiped with advanced 3D Printing, Scanning and CAE facility

Open for students and research scholars for scanning, modelling and printing.J55 printer can print transparent plastics, multi color polymer from soft rubber to hard plastics.

The following have been installed:

  1. Stratasys, USA make, Model: J55 Prime 3D Printer
  2. Monotech, Chennai make FDM type printer of printing range 500mmx500mmx500mm
  3. Artec Make 3D scanner, Germany, Europe.
  4. CAE facility to create 3D models.

The above facilities (3D Printing,Scanning and CAE Facilities) were inagurated by our Director on 7th of September,2022 and now it is open to students for making model through work request portal of Central Skill Training & Fabrication facility(cwswr.iitm.ac.in).
